What makes Stand-Up Paddleboarding the ultimate eco-friendly watersport?

Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) has exploded in popularity across the globe, and for good reason. It is the perfect hybrid of surfing and kayaking, offering a serene, low-impact way to explore the ocean. Because you are standing at full height, SUP provides a unique, top-down vantage point into the water that seated kayaks simply cannot match.

At Mike’s Watersports, we champion SUP as our premier eco-tourism activity. Paddling silently across the Mediterranean leaves zero carbon footprint and creates no noise pollution. This makes it the absolute best way to observe the protected marine life of the Cape Greco National Park, including the Green Sea Turtles that frequently graze in the shallow Posidonia seagrass meadows of Konnos Bay.

How much does a SUP rental cost at Mike’s Watersports?

We want everyone to experience the tranquility of the Mediterranean. For the 2026 season, we offer highly competitive, flat-rate pricing for our paddleboards:

  • The 60-Minute Explorer Session (€20): A full hour is the optimal amount of time to get comfortable on the board, paddle along the scenic limestone cliffs, and even take a quick swim.

Your €20 rental includes everything you need: a highly buoyant, stable SUP board (ideal for beginners), a lightweight adjustable paddle sized to your height, and a Coast Guard-approved buoyancy aid. Our beach staff will also provide a 3-minute tutorial on how to launch safely from the shore and how to hold the paddle correctly.

Pro Tip (Information Gain): The most common mistake beginners make is looking down at their feet while trying to balance! To maintain perfect stability on a SUP board, keep your eyes focused on the horizon or the coastline ahead of you. Where your eyes look, your body naturally balances.

Why is Konnos Bay the best location in Cyprus for SUP?

If you try to paddleboard on a windy, choppy beach, you will spend more time falling off than paddling. The secret to a perfect SUP experience is flat water.

Konnos Bay is geographically blessed. It is a horseshoe-shaped cove surrounded by towering, pine-covered cliffs that act as a natural windbreak. This shields the bay from the prevailing ocean breezes that hit the main Protaras and Ayia Napa strips. The result is “glassy,” mirror-like water that turns a challenging balancing act into a relaxing, meditative glide.

How much does it cost to rent a Stand-Up Paddleboard in Protaras? Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) rentals at Mike’s Watersports in Konnos Bay cost €20 for a 60-minute session. This affordable price includes a premium, high-stability SUP board, an adjustable paddle, and a mandatory life jacket. Because Konnos Bay is naturally protected from coastal winds, it offers the safest, flattest water in Cyprus for beginner paddleboarders.
